Congratulations! You’re engaged! Now that you’re one step closer to getting married, it’s time for the wedding planning to begin in earnest. Even if you have a wedding binder you’ve been putting together for ages, there are still going to be plenty of things to do. After all, some elements of planning a wedding can only really happen after you’re engaged.
Go Public With the Engagement
Unless you’re trying to keep your engagement and the subsequent wedding a secret from people, it’s time to go public with your engagement. Be smart about how you do it though.
If there are people you or your fiance want to tell in person, do that before posting on social media. Nothing travels faster than exciting news on the internet. Once you’ve told those you want to tell in person, feel free to post on social media to your heart’s content. Many couples choose to post a picture of themselves together in a pose that shows off the ring along with their announcement.
Give Yourself Time
You’re understandably excited about getting married. It can be tempting to rush things along so you can get married as soon as possible, but that is probably a mistake. It’s a lot easier to put your dream wedding together if you give yourself time to do it right.
Giving yourself plenty of time will help you avoid feeling rushed. You’ll be less likely to make mistakes or forget things along the way. Give yourself at least 6 months, though a year may be ideal to get all the details sorted out.
Delegate When You Can
If you’re prone to micromanaging, the thought of handing various tasks off to other people may be alarming. That’s part of what your fiance, wedding party, and family are there for though. With all the details to attend to, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Make a list of all the things you want to plan and identify the ones you want to tackle yourself. Delegate the others to people you know you can count on. Make sure they clearly understand what you want and check in with them often. That should help you feel less stressed about the wedding.
Planning a wedding is both exciting and stressful. The hope is that you are more excited than stressed, which is a lot easier to do when you have a good plan in place. Try to remember that you don’t have to do everything yourself, even if it’s tempting to try because you want everything to be perfect. You can always rely on a professional wedding planner if you need someone with lots of experience to help you plan your special day.
